Debby is a qualified systemic psychotherapist and consultant with over 17 years of experience in the Social Service Sector. She has master’s with a Professional practice in systemic family therapy (Clanwilliam Institute). She also has a BSc in Government and Education (Nigeria), a Higher Diploma (HDip) in Social Policy (UCD), a master’s in human Rights and Social Policy (NUIM), Postgraduate Certificate in Non-Profit Leadership and Management.
Debby uses a variety of approaches, such as narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and more, to tailor the sessions to your needs and goals. She also applies the theory of social constructionism, which explores how we view the world and our relationships and how we can achieve the change we aim for through collaborative dialogue. Debby approaches therapeutic relationships with humbleness, curiosity, and a non-judgmental attitude. She creates a space where individuals can thrive and build the change or goal, they wish for themselves. Debby is committed to social justice and continues to work in a systemic way that drives positive change in the lives of her clients.
Debby sees the client/clients as experts in their stories and is particularly drawn to owning and rewriting one’s story through narrative approaches, thereby illuminating those narratives that had been rendered dominant by stereotypes or socially constructed belief systems. When working with Debby, you are the expert on your story. She creates a space for you to explore and rewrite your stories to promote positive change and growth. Debby takes a non-expert position with a client in therapy, which means that she respects the client’s autonomy, agency, and expertise in their own life.
