Miranda is a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist at Munthu Psychotherapy. Miranda's background is in humanities, where she holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Studies from TUD, a Higher Diploma in Psychotherapy from UCD & an MSc in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from UCD School of Medicine. She continues engagement with the UCD School of Psychotherapy at St Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin.
She supports people experiencing relationship difficulties, identity crises, anxiety, anger management issues, eating disorders, to name a few.
She has over 15 years of work experience in a range of mental health, community and disability services settings, supporting people with relationship difficulties, substance abuse, mental, physical and psychological abuse, trauma, autism spectrum disorders, mood disorders, depression, anxiety & acquired brain injuries. She has a passion for our country's mental health outcomes and remains actively engaged with various services.
Her therapeutic work is conducted within the code of ethics of the Association of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy in Ireland (A.P.P.I.).
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy aims to uncover unconscious motivations to why we do what we do, who we are and what it means to be “that” we think we are or want to be. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy works on the premise of singular subjectivity, in other words even when two people experience the same thing, the impact of that experience varies from person to person and so we arrive at “Munthu” which means “person” in Chichewa. No two people are the same and the solutions for one’s life are found in how they think of their world; based in language.
The invitation she extends out to her clients is to speak their truth and that is the start.
Her practice is based in Cork City and she continues to offer a safe environment where she meets with clients for in-person or online one-to-one work.
